Information Literacy Workshop

On March 22-23, The Cambodian Librarians and Documentalists Association (CLDA) conducted the first-ever workshop in Cambodia on “Information Literacy” for academic library staff.  The trainers were Mr. Greg Bem, a student intern of the iSchool at University of Washington, and Ms. Kolap Mao, Library Director of Pannasastra University of Cambodia.

There were twenty six library staff members from eleven high education institutions, from Phnom Penh and six other provinces. Even though the topic and content of the workshop were very new to the participants, they expressed they learned a lot new knowledge and new skills centered on the concepts of Information Literacy (IL), including how to locate information and evaluate it, as well as citations and plagiarism.

This workshop could not have happened without the tremendous work done by Mr. Greg Bem. For about three months, he developed rich resources about information literacy, specifically for academic library staff. We are very grateful to Mr. Bem for his great contribution to this successfully workshop. We would like to also give very special thanks to Pannasastra University of Cambodia (PUC) for hosting the workshop.
